Hello, my name is Matt Hill, nice to meet you.

I’m not a politician—I’m a professional. A builder and a problem-solver. I’ve run multi-million-dollar businesses, led teams under pressure, and fixed what others left broken.

I know why this city can’t get the basics right—because I’m certified to fix it: Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Government Black Belt, and Change Management Specialist.

I’m not here to play nice with a broken system. I’ve managed chaos, cut waste, and made things work. Now I’m ready to do the same for New Orleans.

Watch me outshine the competition.

I was born into a brutal civil war in El Salvador, an orphan in war torn capital San Salvador. By the grace of God, I was adopted out of the warzone by my father, from south of Detroit, and my mother, from right here in Gentilly.

New Orleans was the first place I was brought to in the United States, the only peace I had ever known.

Both New Orleans and The United States have given me opportunities that I never would have had, and it is my duty to pass on opportunity.

I owe a debt to this city and this country, please allow me to repay it.

In college I played on the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship Radford Rugby team. I then left and graduated from George Mason University, one of the best schools in country.

Next, I ended up deep in the high desert of New Mexico, raising wolves on a Navajo reservation deep in New Mexico. Once I arrived in New Orleans I was the Vice Chairman of the Sacred Hope Foundation that took 33 people off the street and got them into a shelter. After the BP oil spill, I bought a bar and was the youngest bar owner in the French Quarter. I have since run award winning restaurants and as well as multi-million-dollar restaurants for multi-billion-dollar corporations.

I know how to turn failing organizations into successful ones.

This country and this city have given me opportunities that as an immigrant, I could not have had otherwise. I want to give back by removing barriers to success, building an Economy of Opportunity, and giving you the tools for you and your children to grow and prosper.

Six Sigma Belt Hierarchy

A Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt isn’t just a problem solver—they’re the architect of transformation. They lead organizations through deep operational overhauls, coach leadership teams, and hardwire excellence into complex systems. In city government, that means more than fixing potholes or streamlining permits—it means building a culture of accountability, data-driven decisions, and relentless improvement across every department. As a Councilmember At-Large with this mindset, I don’t just want reform—I want results. Because New Orleans deserves a government that performs at a world-class level, not one that’s stuck in neutral.

A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is an expert in cutting waste, streamlining operations, and making complex systems work better—faster, cheaper, and with fewer mistakes. In the private sector, they save companies millions. In city government, they can do even more: eliminate bloated processes, expose inefficiencies, and drive measurable improvement in how services are delivered. As a Councilmember At-Large, I bring that discipline to City Hall. We don’t need more task forces—we need better outcomes. It’s time New Orleans ran like every dollar mattered, every minute counted, and every resident expected excellence. Because they should.

A Change Management Specialist is someone trained to lead organizations through transitions—whether that’s restructuring departments, upgrading outdated systems, or shifting to more efficient ways of doing business. In city government, this skill is essential. As a Councilmember At-Large, I bring that mindset to City Hall: identifying what’s broken, building a roadmap for change, and aligning departments to actually follow through. Because managing change isn’t about writing reports—it’s about delivering results. New Orleans can’t afford another decade of dysfunction. We need a council that knows how to fix systems, not just talk about them.
